About the Review Process
Applications will undergo a competitive review process that prioritizes applications for the greatest phosphorus reduction for the least cost. Specifically, every field and associated conservation practice(s) from each application received during the monthly enrollment period will be evaluated using a dollar per pound of phosphorus (P) reduced rate. For example, the payment rate for cover crops (single species) in this program is $45/acre. If it costs $4,500 to implement cover crops on a 100 acre field that was determined to reduce P by 50 pounds, the $/lb of P reduced rate would be $90/lb P ($4,500/50 lbs P = $90/lb). Fields under $150/lb P reduced are highly competitive and likely to be funded. Fields that exceed $200/lb P reduced are less likely to be funded. Fields that are not funded will be kept on file and may be funded in a future enrollment period given demand and the amount of remaining funds.
